We had fun last year trying to predict what the weather would be like for the festival. All completely pointless of course, knowing British weather, but I've just found this long-range forecast...Well, here's hoping, eh? Here's this year's MetCheck link for the festival. Heaven knows how they're working out the weather this far in advance.

I use Metcheck when planning my camping trips. I find it extremely accurate .... when checked no longer than 24 hours before the day in question ;D I can practically guarantee that over the next 140 days, Metcheck will predict every sort of weather imaginable (including snow flurries) for the three days of GM

Yeah, it did that last year, but it's fun to watch, innit?

I deeply believe that rain is produced by bongos. If there are no bongos at Glanusk there will be no rain. I have proof I tell you. I will reveal all WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT. Banjos... the true path (an harmoniums, but only if you got a camper van). Mind, I love to see a gazebo airborn of a morning, swirling on the breath of the wind god.

Hmm ... we did make it clear last year (successfully I believe) that bongos are NOT WELCOME at GM However it still precipitated a little on the Saturday if I recall correctly. I remain to be convinced than banjos will bring the sun out so I will stick to my belief that anyone who persists with inappropriate use of any musical instrument will find said instrument smitten by the gods when they eventually wake up

I hasten to emphasise that peridot is speaking with a smile when he says that bongos aren't welcome. There isn't an official rule at the festical about bongos not being welcome or anything like that. We all just agreed on the forum last year that we all hate bongos.

Could I just make clear, in the spirit of true tolerance and liberalism that the Greenman manifests so strongly, that I am not anti-bongo as such, nor for that matter anti any kind of portable hand percusion, which in the hands of skilled practitioners would please the ears of the gods, and are thus both attractive objects and useful..
Now- the weather. There is mutiny afoot chez Cyfarthfa. How can I persuade my daughters that it will be sunny for three whole days in a row. In south Wales. In August?

We all just agreed on the forum last year that we all hate bongos. Indeed. I seem to recall that it stemmed from posts about the 2006 festy, where a group of bongo players persisted in playing through the night every night

How can I persuade my daughters that it will be sunny for three whole days in a row. In south Wales. In August? We did get a whole week of continuous sunshine last August - just not at the right time. If we all agree to pack tonnes of wet weather gear before we set off then Sodde's law should guarantee sunshine

Must've missed Merthyr then. I'm buying a small dingy and trailer then. That should sort it.

And they would also solve the "need to pee in the middle of the night" problem, if they were going to be disinfected afterwards!

The current Metcheck forecast is broadly similar to the one they had listed for the Village Pump festival last Wednesday morning when we set off for it. We had one rain shower for 10 minutes last night - the rest was blistering heat and I am now sporting an impressive tan The only thing that worries me is whether I can be so lucky twice in one season
