I hope the capacity does not increase again. Really I do.
As I said pre-festival - last year the 6,000 tickets included kids, this year it was 10,000 PLUS kids, so the increase in capacity, IMHO unless I am missing something, was FAR in excess of the 4,000 mentioned.

kids did not need tickets last year. i took my kid in on my ticket. I am happy to be contradicted - but I DISTINCTLY remember making a selection on the ticketing option list for 2 children tickets, even though the cost was NIL.

I remember that too- you had to 'declare' kids, but they got in free. When the delivery note came with the tickets it listed two adults and two kids.

When the size of the camping areas is compared it must be at least double last years attendance, if not more. I thought it was about 12,000 or so.

so with that in mind i.e. Kids Tickets....... what do you think was the attendance this year ? My point is that last year the MAX was 6,000 cos that's the total no. of tickets there were available, and that this year the MIN was 10,000 for the organisers had NO IDEA how many kids were being brought as no where did one have to state this fact anywhere. Thus, for example, my group of FOUR adults brought SIX kids - hence by extrapolation there could easily be 15,000+ there (think about how big the Family area was!) If every adult attending had brought a child there could have been 20,000 there and the organisers would not have known until everyone had got there - evidence of this is the fact that they ran out of kiddies wristbands when I arrived at 4pm on the Thursday! Now, before anyone jumps on me, I am not saying there were anywhere near that number there, just stating that for every child you saw at the festie, you need to add one to the 10, 000. Whilst still an very intimate and truly fabulus event, I would hate to see the 'nominal' capacity go up again as this will again mask the real no's attending. I am convinced that the volume of people are what led to the swamp-like conditions in places as it rained as much last year (including incredible thunder storms) and the place was not churned up as much. And please don't anyone suggest the banning of kids !

It could just as well have been 6000 adult tickets that was the limit.

maybe last year you did have to say how many kids you were bringing, this doesn't mean that the kids were counted as part of the 6000. It could just as well have been 6000 adult tickets that was the limit. Included or not a) you could not bring kids last year if you had no ticket for them and b) this way the organisers had advance notice of how many kids would be coming. The way it was done this year they could not have had not a clue as to how many people would actually be there in total as no one had to say how many kids they were bringing. But fair do's to what you said. And I am not trying to cause an argument, just being hopeful the organisers do not use the event's undoubted success to expand it far beyond it capabilities. and this is the crux of what I am saying - a further increase would I think be too much if the site is not to be further expanded.

Its possible of course, but the official website clearly stated in the month or so leading up to the event, that the land was in good condition and well drained and it attempted to put people's mind at ease about the likelihood of it being churned up.
Personally, I surmise that the HUGE volume of people walking on such a confined pathway, is what churned it up so much compared to last year in similar weather conditions.

i think the difference in the weather was that it rained pretty much constantly from friday night to sunday morning, whereas the rain was stop/start over the weekend last year. The pathway to the (old) folkey dokey was just as muddy last year
as you say though, the increase in numbers certainly assisted mud production

This was our first time at green man and we chose to go with 2 small children rather than go to WOMAD, our previous haunt, because it was small enough to let the children have some freedom. I wouldn't go again if the numbers increased substantially. We'd have to move on to the end of the road I think! If that expanded we'd have to opt for the moseley music festival. Does anyone know of anything smaller then that?

Wheatley Hill Festival was very small this year, because the promoter forgot to tell anyone about it.

I reckon they won't rush the tickets out, they certainly haven't needed to in the past - so I reckon you can hang onto your cash for the time being!
