my first time, i thought it only appropriate. bit messy when eating though (with apologies for the 50% discriminatory nature of this posting, not discounting the fine tradition of hirsute and bearded ladies)

as stated elsewhere, you wont get in to the GM without one, and that includes women and children. you can get round this by buying one at one of those beard stalls although you may have to haggle.

Yeah, I've almost got long enough hair to wrap it under my chin and make it look like I've got a beard. I might be able to get by

Fortunately, I've never been ashamed of my ladies tash and (slightly sparse) beard, so consequently, I've never shaved it. So it's looking good!

I have been rubbing REGAINE into my 6 year old daughters face (told her it was soap) for the past 4 months for just this purpose

I did attempt to develop some appropriate facial hair before my first GreenMan (in 2005) - but it was a complete failure. My girlfriend doesn't like the 'hirsute' look on me - and my beard grows so slowly and patchily - that I fear I would have been turfed out of the (pre)marital home, long before I had produced any decent growth. (I know, I know...a 'real' man would put his foot down and say "I'm growing a huge beard, woman, and that's final" - but I'm not a 'real man'...I don't have a beard! )

Some of us already have a beard! It is just a goatee though. Maybe I'll let the rest grow around it!
