Hey mojo I think you're flogging a dead horse on here. I'm afraid all the action is on the main site these days. But since you asked . . . . Race Horses, Field Music, Joker's Daughter, Caitlin Rose, Erland & the Carnival, First Aid Kit, John Grant, Wave Pictures, Steve Mason, Fanfarlo . . . .

Hi krasnyi, Thanks for the recommedations. And thanks for the prompt to Green Man to get their fingers out regarding lost postal tickets on official site forum. Much appreciated.

Hi cyfarthfa! Yeah this was my first introduction to Green Man four years ago when it was briefly the official forum. Prefer the layout of this and there's less bickering here (although I did rather enjoy stirring up the great Doves debate earlier in the year!) Anyroad, really looking forward to next week. The weather forecast is rather splendid at the moment (I only pay heed to the good ones) and I'm working out a strategy for persuading the kids to pretty much stay in the main arena on the Saturday (probably involving trips to the kids area between sets) as I pretty much want to see everything on the main stage that day. Bring it on!

It's got less of a feel of Big Brother watching you here. Or should I say Green Man is watching you. Mind you that not difficult nobody's hardly ever here ! It my fourth GM and I'm excited like a six year old.

Our fourth too and I know this is tempting fate but the weather forecast is looking pretty damn good! Presumably you were there in 2008? Christ that was just too muddy wasn't it? Even for our kids. Dead excited too. Listening to the very wonderful Wave Pictures on spotify as I write - if you like Jeffrey Lewis and Jonathan Richman as I do, you'll love Wave Pictures. Utterly perfect for Green Man.

Oh yeh I remember 2008. Bloody tiring wading threw all that mud. That floor matting they brought in makes a differance. Thanks will check out Wave Pictures. They haven't put a music timing schedule up on the official GM site that I've notice as yet.

Problem was that there'd been weeks of rain leading up to the 2008 fest which left the ground sodden before the crowd got to it, and the organisers hadn't made many preparations or chosen a very sensible layout. It's been a bit drier this year, so it may not be too bad underfoot. Haven't been camping at all this year- time off and weather haven't coincided.
I'm looking forward to Tallest Man on Earth and Billy Bragg. Also Henrys Funeral Shoe who are a local blues duo in the heavy RL Burnside mode. The down side is that a fair few of my students got tickets- my own fault I fear. So I will be tripping over them all weekend. I doubt their ability to cope in the rain too!

I've been working through myspace and various blogs in an effort to check out as many as I can. I was already keen to see Fionn Regan, Fanfarlo, The Flaming Lips, John Smith, Steve Mason and a few others, but I'll now add Erland & The Carnival, Besnard Lakes, Johnny Flynn, Bear In Heaven, Hundred In The Hands, Darwin Deez and An Horse. There's a load more I fancy too.

Posted a link to here on the official forum so we may get some newcomers.
Hey cyfarhfa - don't you want your students to know just how cool and trendy you are? Most students here in Brum are nowhere near cool enough for Green Man, they'll all be off to the V Festival or wherever.
Can I just put in a word for John Grant? His album, Queen of Denmark (with Midlake as his backing band) would be my album of the year so far were it not for the sublime Field Music. Check him out!

They are film students Krasnyi, also a few Popular Music students who I do a seminar for- pre 1940 American music of the southern states. Film students as a whole believe themselves a breed appart. Wales is a very small place and they are hard to avoid at the best of times. No one can ever be as cool as them (hah). I would also prefer to avoid them whilst I- or them- are in a state of advanced 'refreshment'. They are hopefully only going for Doves anyway, and I have no intention of seing them. Still, good time to go for a shower. Looking forward to loads really- i think the Green man stage is going to be outstanding. I just hope it doesn't tip down.

Welcome back Mr Ray! I'd not come across the Czars so can't compare but Queen of Denmark just blows me away, really timeless beautiful songs. I have tried but I just don't get Tindersticks - I like Harmony Around My Table but that's about it. Mind you I'm not sure I really get La Newsom either (apart from 81 which is a gorgeous song) but I realise to admit that might get me evicted from the festival. Efterklang for me on Sunday night. Have to say I reckon it's a bloody wonderful line-up - no other festival to touch it, only End of the Road comes near.

Just a note to say that although it's been quiet, I do still check in on this forum. The main forum does seem to be the main hive of activity, but this one is still very much here whever you want to use it!
In the "Acts" section I put up a 2010 line-up with links to each act's myspace page where possible, good for research if you're someone who wants to know a few songs before you see a band.

An ill-timed holiday to France has interrupted my GM research activities but I've found a couple of hours to start browsing the links. Thanks all for the early pointers - I know from previous years that I can rely on your recommendations. Looking forward to getting home on Wednesday and packing for the festival. Have a great time y'all
