Glad to hear you made it back safe and well... Personally, I adored GM '09...It was my first and by golly it shan't be the last...I brought two girls from Glasgow, never before had they visited wales so it was all very exciting for them...and then my friend from London Adam who had similarly little experience of the great nation... Tangerine Fields camping was convenient, certainly helped with the leaving this morning when the heavens opened. I was "the guy in the knitted beard" for the weekend, which I had no idea would cause such a stir! I think there was a fair bit of resentment amongst ythose that had produced lustrous and natural efforts in keeping with the festival vibe...to those people I apologise...to anyone who wants one please visit the ace lady I got it from's website at either www.folksy.com/shops/wifeofbrian or www.wifeofbrian.etsy.comshe's a marvel! Musical highlights for me were British Sea Power (first time i'd seen them since '05) Wave Machines, the fence collective fare, Camera Obscura, Bon Iver, Grizzly Bear, Beach House, Animal Collective, Clinton Haylin, being rubbish at the Green Man Quiz, the flippin AMAZING rodriguez, Phantom Band, errors, Josie Long, Isy Suttie and Mitch Benn...all sorts...it was excellent all over! I'm a convert for certain!

Ahh SYOF (if I can be so familiar) YOU were the cove in the weird beard... At first I thought you'd broke your jaw, but then saw you talk to someone with no difficulty what so ever and realised it was a chin wig. My daughters were most impressesed. Next time-perhaps- you will stray into the swirling maelstrom that is general camping. Yes, I thought it was the best yet.

Bloody fantastic! Overall I thought it was the best of the last three years. Perhaps fewer individual standout musical highlights but 'average' quality far higher. I thought the site layout was the best yet. Wave Machines and Martin Carr were unexpected highlights. Leisure Society, Vetiver, Bon Iver, Rodriguez, Roky Erickson were fantastic as were the various Fence Collective associates. I found Wilco rather underwhelming though. Overall favourite act was actually Yellow Moon Band. They just seem to condense the whole spirit of GM into 45 minutes of musical magic. With an 8 year old in tow I didn't get to sample too much of the cinema / literature / comedy offerings but they looked good. Looking forward to next year already

This was my third GM and I thought it was absolutely wonderful. Having a holiday ticket really enhanced the experience for me. My highlights were: The music Being the first in the queue on thursday afternoon for a pieminister pie. ;D Walking to Chrickhowel via the river. (Wonderful) The weather. Hawkwind are nutters !
Downside - Was camped in motorhome family camping area and some very loud and drunk people right next to us decide from about 12am to play guitar and sing alone. This went on till about 3am when Bohemian Rhapsody was sung buy a few women who sounded like hyenas. (I'm not kidding ) Did any one else hear it?
The following morning I felt like howling like a cat outside their campervan. I hope they had the mother of all headaches ! The pizza in the camping field was pretty yuk too.
However, althought still pretty knackered I can't wait to do it all again next year. There was a rumour on the official web site forum that there might be a change of venue next year. Does anyone know anything about this?

We were in the motorhome area too but were amazed at how quiet our bit was especially as we were just at the end of the main walk back from the arena. Was woken up at 4am one morning by people talking loudly outside but most of our direct neighbours had very young kids so were tucked up in bed long before we'd returned from the festie. It is really the luck of the draw and at a festival in particular you want to 'live and let live' but making noise 'till 3am in the family area is not on in my opinion. I reckon the change of venue thing on the main site is just someone trolling. There's no source quoted so he might as well be telling us that the moon is made of cheese

Ahh, back amoungst the calm sanity of the 'unofficials'! I recon there's a fair bit of Trollin' going on over there on the other side. I didn't find much to get upset about. There were a large group of noisy kids in the bit of family camping we were in, who didn't seem too happy about being there. On the other hand there were a tidy Manx family next to us who were great. I didn't notice that much bad behaviour at all of any age group, although I find it hard to forgive the people who urinated on my tent. My kids are a bit older and well into music, so parenting is now just a question of stuffing food into them at regular intervals and buying the odd trinket. Likewise Ms Cyfarthfa who otherwise gets a bit restless, but a pint of cider normally takes care of that. I also heartly recomend ear plugs. (For the noise in campsites, not Ms Cyfarthfa). In fact, I'm going back over there soon to start a thread called 'nothing upset me and I love you all (in a comradly kind of way)'. And to start a rumour that God is considering relocating part of heaven to Glanusk, at least for four days in August...and to cap it all, oh joy, oh bliss, to be handed a sausage and onion bap by a genuine descendent of the Crawshays!

Was parked right at the back of the holiday motorhome site. (Near the river) Rather long walk to the arena. I suppose I pretty lucky that it was only one night singing! I'm gona buy better ear plugs for next time. Any recommendations? Re: rumours of a change of venue. I do hope it was trolls on the other site - I love that valley and I love the anticipation that I feel as I drive alone that winding road to the GM site. This time last year they'd already put on sale early bird tickets. No sign yet? Cyfarthfa - love your post on the official site ;D "Although some guy called 'Gabe' came up to me in the Far Out tent and told me that God was thinking of relocating part of Heaven to Glanusk for four days in August.... "

Come to think of it, he looked a bit like the guy who always seemed to be dancing outiside the record stall, except he was dressed all in white and had an ineffable air of sanctity, and there was an aroma of roses about him. Unlike the guy outside the record stall who smelled of Patchoulli. Gabe then told me he was going for a Pieminister and a pint of Butty Bach. Yeah, it's all true mate.

It was not only my best Green Man, but my best festival to date, I reckon!

Just back after our post-festival camping trip to the Gower where the traditional Green Man mud was recreated under our groundsheet and where the wind it did blow. And the haar rolled in.
Our third GM and certainly the best - not just because of the weather but the vastly improed layout was great, better kids area etc. The giant green man was a great touch though we had to watch the burning from the tent it still looked wonderful - check out the youtube clip!
Highlights - Bon Iver, British Sea Power, the Fence crew, Leisure Society, Emmy the Great, 6 Day Riot and James Yuill. Like many on the official board (when you can tear yourself away from the vitriol and moaning and trolling) I was disappointed by Animal Collective - it just didn't click.
No news on early bird tickets?
Roll on 2010

I loved the addition of those plastic hexagonal modular roadways in the busy walking areas. If we did have rain they would have been a massive help to stop quagmires from building up.
The new layout worked for me - I was slightly dubious about having the dance tent so near to the campfire area (I know it was like that in 2008 as well, but the rain last year kept me away from the campfire). I went to the campfire late on Friday and Saturday and had a fantastic time playing the guitar and having a laugh with new pals until about 7am each time. Those two nights/mornings were my festival highlight without a doubt.
It has to be said that the weather has a massive impact on things. I would have had a great time if it had rained, but I think I had a better one because it didn't.

My fourth year at Green Man and had an excellent time as usual. I couldn't say which has been my best year, but this was more enjoyable than last year due to the weather. Musical Highlights: The Wave Machines, British Sea Power, Jonny, Joe Boyd & Robyn Hitchcock, Jarvis Cocker, Camera Obscura, Yellow Moon Band and Wilco.
