First time for us last year with two kids (then nearly 4 and 18 months). They loved it. Instantly made friends with other kids in the campsite. Loved rolling down the hill in front of the main stage. Loved the bubbles. Loved making masks in the children's tent. Even liked some of the music (especially Gruff Rhys). Loved the mud! What I learned from last year is to be more chilled and accept that I won't get to see and listen to everything I want to (if your kids are a little older this might not be as much of a problem). this year we're goinbg with friens who have two kids of similar ages to ours so in principle childcare duties will be shared out and we should all have a bit more time to ourselves (and I can make sure I don't miss King Creosote or James Yorkston!)

I'd agree totally with krasnyi. The avatar on the left is my 7 yr's daughter's effort at mask making. She had a brill time last year and I would have to say that while many festivals advertise themselves as child friendly - GM tops them all in this regard. Certainly last year there was a wide range of activities available and all of them free. Having kids in tow does affect your flexibility but I reckon it's worth the effort to introduce them to the true education of quality music. Certainly there's no chance of me missing King Creosote as my daughter is as big a fan as I am

I'm working on my daughter to turn her into a KC fan too but she's only 4 (nearly 5). She does sing along to Jumping at the Cats though. It is a good idea to get your kids used to some of the music they'll here. Some of the songs from last year's acts have become favourite bedtime songs in our house (Monkey swallows the Universe - Sheffield Shanty, Alasdair Roberts - I Had a Kiss of the King's Hand' and Rachel Unthank - 'Fareweel Regality')
