Frozen cans of booze keeping my food cool. Not one ounce of wasted space of weight. Pretty much a perfect world. If you're thinking of freezing cans, remember that the liquid will expand. The can may cope or it may give way at the weakest point under the ringpull. Suggest a couple of test freezes first

I've frozen cans by mistake many times, having put a couple of cans in the freezer to get them chilled faster. You're right, once in a blue moon one of them does make a sort of lager slush puppy appear in the freezer. Most of them are okay though, and I'll know if they've given way before the cans go into the cool bag.

So ... what if you fill the cool box with frozen cider & water boxes/bottles, and keep a large ordinary plastic box for food, putting one box of cider / bottle of water in until melted, and then replacing that box/bottle with the next box/bottle, so the frozen stuff keeps the rest of the frozen stuff frozen for longer, and the perishables last longer too?

That sounds like a darn good idea. Although when the real heatwave weather kicks in the plain plastic box might not cope too well

We cooked a lot of out own food last year, just eating out once a day. Saved a small fortune by bringing biscuits and snacks to top up. A large supply of Cider is a must along with Vodka and Wine.
