There's an excellent choice of quality food available at GM, but 'dining out' all the time eats into the funds that can be better invested in the fine range of drinks available in the bars  If you have the room it's well worth bringing at least one of those single ring 'suitcase' burners and some cookware. But what to cook? Let's have some ideas  I'll start with my spicy bacon, cheese, & mushroom butties. This is a recreation of those fab ones served from the tea van at previous GMs To start you'll need a couple of slices of your bread of choice, 2 or 3 slices of bacon or vegi-bacon, a portobello mushroom, a tomato, and 2 or 3 slices of mozzarella cheese and butter for frying and on the bread. Slice the mushroom and tomato. Fry the bacon and the sliced mushroom and tomato, layer them on a slice of buttered bread and put the cheese on top. Then comes the magic ingredient - Levi Roots 'Love' Apple Tomato Sauce. I searched long and hard after last year's festie and tried many alternatives. Heinz spicy tomato chutney was the best I could find for a long time but wasn't quite right. Then one day on aisle 5 in Sainsbury's Levi spoke unto me and I found the true way  Spread this generously on the second slice of bread and complete the sandwich. Put it back on the pan for a minute each side to warm the bread and melt the cheese. It's what hangovers were made for

That is some gourmet eating right there, I was just going to bring good old virgin bacon but this is upping the steaks... I mean stakes. I fancy taking some fairly ordinary Richmond bangers, but cheffing them up by caramelising some red onion, a drop of red wine and a splash of Worcester sauce to make some rudimentary red onion confit.

Sounds good webbins - With a bit of imagination you can do a lot on a single pan.
Speaking of gourmet, you don't fancy bringing a few Kashmir curries down do you?
Mrs Peridot and I spent a few years in Bradford and we have to back every so often to remind ourselves of how a 'proper' curry should taste :-)

Your making me hungry! Last year I took a couple of soups. I do recommended a Covent Garden Mulligatawny Chicken for a cold day.  After having read everyone else suggestions - I think I'd better buck up my ideas and add few other foods onto the list.

Mrs Peridot and I spent a few years in Bradford and we have to back every so often to remind ourselves of how a 'proper' curry should taste :-) We are certainly blessed for curry in Bradford. There is an excellent takeaway near me in Sandy Lane, Wilsden Balti House it's called and the food is great, caution required for the occasional cinnamon stick that lurks within. There's a veggie curry place at GM though isn't there? I never frequented it last year for fear complete bottie meltdown, what's it like and is there anywhere else that serves curry on the site, I presume the vendors will be the same. On the soup front, take some Sainsbury's Taste The Difference Moroccan Chicken, Chick Pea and Apricot Soup, it's good stuff.

The curry outlet was excellent - I used it a couple of times. Nothing like a Kashmir or Sweet Centre (on a good night) one but as good as you'd ever find in the Brecon Beacons  The portions were a decent size too. I don't mind paying the price of festival food if I get a meal on the plate, it really pees me off when I get a snack size portion and am hungry again half an hour later.

Can I just put in a wod for the little cafe just inside the main entrance by the FD tent? I think it was run by a local school. Great bacon baps for breakfast and tasty cake too.

Unfortunate legalities keep us slightly apart but there's no problem with notifying folks of our presence (unlike some other dreadful 'electronic' festival sites that I won't mention)

Don't worry, the return to unofficiality was all very smiley and amicable, and the advantage of being unofficial is that we can have fun and frolic over here without so much worry about what's said being tied to the festival.

any suggestions on keeping foodstuffs cool? can't see ice packs lasting 5 days lol......bringing a big one of those rubber builder buckets but thats just to keep beer and cider cool

... can't see ice packs lasting 5 days lol...... With a cool box I use frozen bottles of water rather than ice packs. They actually seem to last longer and you can use the water as they thaw. Wet cloths draped over things do a reasonable job of keeping them cool. If you have the space and a good trolley to lug it a gas-operated fridge is the only reliable way of keeping things cool over an extended period.

EVEN BETTER! The level of ingenuity around here has been off the scale these last couple of days.
Frozen cans of booze keeping my food cool. Not one ounce of wasted space of weight. Pretty much a perfect world.
