Is it just me or is the line-up just a little underwhelming so far? I know Spiritualized have their fans on here but they seem a bit too mainstream and Glastonbury for Green Man. It was my first Green Man last year and I came across so many acts that I've fallen in love with - Gilbert, Monkey Swallows the Universe, Fanfarlo, Vetiver to name but a few. So far my trawl through the line-up so far hasn't uncovered many similarly hidden gems (though Caribou and the Accidental do sound pretty fab). Am I just being a bit grumpy? Of course my mood might be completely changed by the announcement that Sufjan Stevens is headlining on Sunday night, that Jonathan Richman has been added and that Gorky's are reforming and will perform Barafundle in its entirety!

In response, I would actually say that I find Super Furry Animals the most mainstream headliner the festival has ever had. Spiritualized can be an absolutely amazing live band, in fact they're a damn sight better than Beirut, ticket holders really lucked out with this change! I heavily suspect that the Sunday headliner will be Pentangle, since they are on tour just before that and we haven't yet had the 'old' folk headliner like we have for the last few years. I would agree with some posters who say that this year's line-up isn't as exciting as last year's, but to be honest last year's line-up was the best festival line-up I've ever witnessed anywhere, they really pulled it out of the bag.

Last year, I found that there were a whole bunch of acts who I'd never heard of but really enjoyed when I saw them, and then found out more about when I got home. I'm looking forward to more of the same this year.

I think the line up is looking great, but then I am a huge fan of both Spiritualised and The National. One more "name" would really make it for me though. Would prefer Sufjan as never seen him live, but Pentangle would certainly do as well!

Pretty underwhelmed. I hope the Sunday headliners are something to get exited about and at least something vaguely folkey. Pentangle would be great even though i'll be seeing them earlier in the year.
Spiritualized certainly don't any way near make up for Beirut cancelling for me.
I do agree that last years line-up would be difficult to match though!

It was the line-up that attracted to me to last year's GM.
It's last year's GM that attracts me to this one.
The superb organisation of the festival together with the fantastic location make it unmissable in my book. Every good band on the line-up is a bonus.

I went to the last two and had an amazing time at both. The organization and location are definitely part of what make it a great festival.

Totally agree that Green Man is as much, if not more, about the setting and ambience than the actual acts. Also agree that stumbling upon unknowns is the real joy of any festival. WOMAD used to be my festival of choice and it was always the Uzbek shepherds that blew me away rather than the flashy African headliner. Probably just me feeling grumpy at the time. I'll still be there and I'll continue trawling through the myspace pages of everyone on the line-up. So far I can add Radio Luxembourg, Caribou, the Accidental and Beth Jesn Houghton to my list of must-sees.

Yes, I must admit that nothing announced so far has made me go "yeeeah". Unlike last year. A lot of the acts seem very "same-y" and safe. Maybe I just haven't found the hidden diamonds yet. I've just watched the Live version of Jools Holland's show; Pentangle, tum-ti-tum. Followed by Operator Please - woah, yeah. But not at GM. Still, it's going to be REALLY HOT this year, so I'll just chill out at the GM cafe.

This will be the first time i've been to the GM festival, but the acts are the reason i'm going. Drive By Truckers will be awesome, i've never seen them at a festival only at venues. Also looking forward to Black Mountain, Howlin Rain & Iron and Wine. I'm not familiar with alot of the other artists, but thats part of the appeal of going, finding new music for yourself.

I don't get the "samey" comment, that's like saying that chips are the same as a vindaloo!

It is pretty samey in the sense that there are quite a few acts playing this year that played last year.
Even though it was expected, i'm really chuffed that Pentangle are playing, the other two headliners made GM look like a bog-standard indie festival, which it isn't.

Just logged onto this forum for the first time- and very glad not on my own. Looking forward to festival as it's such a great location, wonderful people, atmosphere etc- but the line up this year is very very disappointing. There is no one that I am really excited to see although I know I will find some hidden gems(like you do every year). Spiritualized and Super Furry does nothing for me to be honest. Band of Horses and Silver Jews should definately be playing in my opinion. I have just bought a Damien Jurado cd(everyone needs to listen to him- brilliant)- and am loving it so he has become my must see, along with Caribou, Simone White, Magik Markers, James Yorkston and Nina Nastasia. I REALLY HOPE THE NUMBERS OF PEOPLE ATTENDING DOESN'T INCREASE THE SAME AS IT SEEMED TO HAVE LAST YEAR TOO. PS I AM PRAYING FOR A SCORCHER OF A WEEKEND WITH NO RAIN

PS I AM PRAYING FOR A SCORCHER OF A WEEKEND WITH NO RAIN Hi and welcome bettymo Your post epitomises, for me, the spirit of GM and these forums. I've never heard of Damien Jurado but I will follow your recommendation and see what I find. Some of the best music I've been listening to over the past year has been from the bands I missed at GM '07 but picked up on through the enthusiasm on here. I would love to be seeing Robert Plant and Steve Malkmus again but many of last years attendees were ambivalent about these acts anyway. I know that this time next year I'll be listening to new bands that I heard at GM '08 or were recommended to me on these forums. Regarding capacity, I understand that it's the same as last year so there shouldn't be a problem. I think GM is overdue continuous good weather so I'm with you in hoping that GM '08 is remembered for the fantastic weather rather than any big name attraction

Hi krasnyi, thats good news about the capacity as really noticed a difference between the last 2 years and really don't want the thing to become massive and ruined. Go and buy Ghost of David by Damien Jurado- I can't stop playing it. he is best mates with Dave Bazan from Pedro the Lion who album is named after...it is just lovely

I find it interesting how people focus on headliners. It's been the same in the press when people talk about Glastonbury. For me, part of the beauty of a festival is that if you don't like the headliner, you can go and see what's on one of the other stages instead.
Even if you don't like any of the three bands who are playing at any given time at GM, there's plenty of other stuff to do for a while until something more to your taste comes on. Since we're going to get flawless weather this year, you can even just sit in the sunshine with a cider.
Capacity-wise, I had it from the organisers that it was staying at 10,000 this year (same as 2007).
