Wouldn't be the first time he's done a smaller festival in recent times, my brother caught a bit of him at the Fleagh (Flah?) festival in London about 6 years ago.

he was great at the fleadh
(as was dylan a few years ago too - making that idea still entirely possible...)
but there'd have to be a clause in his contract specifying none of those bloody greendale songs

Are you kidding - Greendale is superb! You've got to re-assess that one, really great Crazy Horse guitar sound, good epics like Sun Green.
Have you seen the proper film of it? It really works!

i couldn't get through more than twenty minutes of the film
toe curling
and i fell asleep in the show
until the encores
don't get me wrong - neil is something else
but ooo, greendale is lame...

I never saw it live but really wish I had. I've got an excellent bootleg from the acoustic tour which preceded the album. Does not one song jump out at you? You should watch the film a bit longer, the scene for Devil's Sidewalk is great. What are your favouriter NY albums then? I'd probably go with On The Beach and Sleeps With Angels.

yup - let's not fall out over it!
it was the acoustic tour i saw, where he told the story of each song before he sang it
or after, can't remember
and it was just a bit rubbish
we all snapped up tickets (£50 to sit at the BACK of the barn that is the bloody hammersmith apollo) for what was billed as a solo acoustic tour
bloody hell! neil young! solo acoustic! it's going to be like 1971!
then they announce he's only going to be previewing new, unreleased material
which might have been ok
but definitely seemed a bit pretentious
and then it was all that guff
still, worth it to hear needle and the damage done on the pipe organ in the encores
favourite neil? everybody knows this is nowhere, maybe or, thought it's obvious, after the goldrush
and i actually really like the first solo record - with i've loved her so long and all that
i saw him in finsbury park with booker t and the mgs as his band
now that was a show
even worth sitting through bloody pearl jam beforehand
they were supposed to make a record together (neil and the mgs) but then fell out, supposedly
shame, that would have been a cracker
and much better than the one he made with pearl jam
hey ho
he's contrary - and that's why we love him
PM me - i might have some neil boots you don't, if you're interested
cheers ray

Cheers will do. I thought Are You Passionate featured the MGs but I could be wrong. Haven't got that one yet, it's quite low on my list as most sources tell me it's a stinker.
It's a difficult one, Neil Young live. Sadly I've never seen him as having only got into him a few years ago there hasn't been that many oppertunities. It's not unusual for him to tour with totally unheard material, there was a brilliant anecdote on a recent Word Magazine Podcast about him debuting Tonight's The Night. It went along the lines of:
A young record executive from NY's label had been sent to see him play, and having had recent sucess with Harvest and the like, the audience were quite shocked when all he played was the complete Tonight's The Night album, including both versions of the title track. After many left and booed, he finished playing TTN and came off-stage. Neil then asked the young executive "what do you think I should do now?". The executive replied "I think you should play they something that they know." NY: "You know, I think you're right." Neil then strode back on stage and started with... "Tonight's the night... tonight's the night.."!
With so many great songs though, I think I'd want a few I knew even though he doesn't seem too bothered by what the crowd want.
I do really like After The Goldrush, I think that was my first Young purchase.

Neil's doing a few UK dates in March. I would say that makes the likelyhood of any British Festival dates a little slim, but you never know.
Dates are:
Edinburgh, Playhouse (March 3) London, Hammersmith Apollo (5/6/8/9/11) Manchester Apollo (11/12)
It's a bit pricey mind!
