Hi there fellow green manners - I thought this might be a good place to come for a small ask, if anyone is interested in a shameless ask for help; and apologies if this isn’t an appropriate use of the forum - some friends and I, who have all been doing green man for over a decade, have recorded a couple of pilot episodes of a podcast about independent music and festivals and the challenges the industry faces. It’s under the theme of trying to understand whether starting our own small festival is an impossible dream when we have really not much money behind us, no contacts in the industry and no relevant skills.
The hope is that we put out a weekly podcast looking at the various challenges the industry faces and maybe shedding some light for some people like ourselves, who don’t understand it at all, as to how it works.
I’d love some feedback on whether this sounds like something people would listen to, whether it’s been done already (I can’t find it if it has), and whether anyone would have any interest in listening to the pilot and sharing any thoughts before we put it out. I’ve been trying to learn how to do some editing over the last couple of months and have no doubt that part of it leaves a lot to be desired, but I am really grateful for thoughts and notes from others who are in to this kind of independent event. The point is to check whether we’re being really stupid before we publish it so please do drop me a message and I’ll share the pilot directly if anyone is interested! Thanks so much

I'd almost certainly be interested in listening, although (in all honesty) I'm probably not sufficiently well-organised to guarantee that I'd actually do so! A more helpful suggestion would be to try and get in touch with whoever does the Glastocast podcast: www.glastocast.co.uk/about/ They seem lovely, absolutely besotted with the festival experience and really well-connected with people who are involved in all facets of actually putting them on (crew, curation, booking, etc.). You could either pitch your thing as an episode or two of their (irregular) podcast, or else, I'm sure, get some decent contacts, ideas, etc. Good luck, and keep us posted! x

Thankyou - I have reached out to them and hopefully will be able to get them on an early episode of the podcast!
Just in case any interest; we have now released our first episode. I won’t post the link here but if anyone does want to give it a go, it’s under how to build a festival on Spotify and Apple Podcasts
Thanks

Hey - it's great!
If you want to speak to someone who's at the beginning of this journey, you could try the folk that put on The Weekend Rumble (in Llansoy)? I've not been (and not because of the truly terrible name).
Strikes me they're still small enough to be doing things in much the same way that someone starting from scratch would do.
Oh, and whoever said long drinks queues - YES! Madness...
