I enjoy his Fairport stuff and so forth also...

Yes - excellent song. I've not got his latest yet but I heard that on a cd free with Word Magazine.
Is the album as consistent?

Not got the album myself although reviews have suggested that it's somewhat inconsistent.
I saw him live at Guilfest this year and he was one of the highlights of a very good festival music-wise.
In every other respect though, Guilfest was a disaster are and I would never go again. Makes you appreciate well organised festivals like GM even more.
