Any idea about what's happening this year, like acts n' stuff? Wasn't it about now that the first info came out? In fact, I'd bought tickets I think by now. Hope you all well and waking up from hibernation.

Things seem a bit quiet on the line-up front, maybe all the musicians have pawned their guitars because of the credit crunch.
If Bon Jovi taught us anything, it was that if the union's been on strike and you're down on your luck, you can always put your six-string in hock.
I'm betting that we'll start hearing things soon. I think other festivals are also keeping their cards close to their chests this year, maybe everyone's genuinely waiting to see how the financial situation develops before committing themselves?

I think you're right Chris Thinking about the amount of small to mid size festivals springing up last year that can't be sustained. And why book now when the band fee might be more realistic in a few months. Mind you with all this doom and the antics of the fun police- a sunny few days in August would be very attractive to a lot of people and force reluctant hands into the skyrocket. The redundancy word is being bandied about in my place of work. I tells yer- if it happens Green man tikki straight off and a few quid stashed for drinky poos. One thing I've found after 50 years is we all need something to look forward to. :-) Oh fun police reference: Also please circulate to your friends: NOISE LIMITERS It has been brought to our attention that new noise legislation is about to be introduced that is likely to virtually destroy live music in the UK. The government wish to consider it a legal requirement in the new tax year to introduce laws insisting anyone applying or re-applying for an entertainment licence must have a noise control device fitted to the venue. This will be the final nail in the coffin for pretty much ALL entertainment in the UK as the level at which these devices cut the power off is ridiculously low. In our experience any venue that has one in use cannot have any electric music as the power is constantly being cut mid-song - and even loud applause at the end of a song can cut it. Venues are suffering enough as it is without being forced to go to the expense of fitting one of these damned things. Noise limiters are a menace to live music, and we expect this is the bright idea of some unelected suit in Brussels that's never been to a gig in their life. I think other festivals are also keeping their cards close to their chests this year, maybe everyone's genuinely waiting to see how the financial situation develops before committing themselves? I would hope that GM's independence from corporate sponsorship will lead to fewer pressures on the organisers in that regard. It is a pity that the experience of the weather over the last two years will deter some of the more casual festival goers. By the same token there'll be more emphasis on 'back to basics' and holidaying at home and GM is the best value few days you could ever hope for.

The snowballs were the only bit of the snowman we got to make down here Didn't stop them closing the schools mind - don't know how the next generation will learn to cope with adversity like with muddy festivals Less than 200 days to go ... we need more info

Do I hear the distant rustle of spring? Why, the snow has melted o'er the opencast, and the sun riseth before 9.30am. Wales beat England, and a daffodil has been forced to flower in the porch. Surely it is time for some word from Brecon (or thereabouts)? It's nearly time to start playing fantasy festival....

Looks like Bon Iver then. Bowerbirds also listed as playing ... but on 16th August That's good, I liked the Bowerbirds last time. Hope they turn up on the right day though. I wonder if there'll be an 'old' headliner this year. SFA were disappointing last year I thought, and Pentangle were n't outstanding. Richard Thompson and Iron and Wine were much more on the money.

Bon Iver and Bowerbirds good. How about these for headliners - Friday: Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Saturday: Fleet Foxes, Sunday: Magazine. Incidentally someone on the 'official' forum reckons first acts will now be announced on 3rd March. Seems very late - I notice Big Chill is advertising its line-up already and that's only a week or so before Green Man.

Just had an email from Jo saying that Tuesday is the day for announcements, including headliners! That's lifted my spirits slightly after learning that the best music venue in South Wales closed today www.thepointcardiffbay.com/Oh how I'd love half an hour with the NIMBYs that precipitated this

First acts announced - presumably Wilco and British Sea Power wil be headliners? Both OK but the kind of acts I'd be happy to hear from the tent whlist babysitting. No mention of Fleet Foxes though there is a Bella Union night - how about FF headlining with the Acorn (another great Bella Union band - what a label) too? Saw Vetiver last week - be great to have them back too!

Some nice acts in the first wave of announcements there. How does everyone feel about the "holiday ticket"? I might have fancied that, but my holidays from work for the year are already all spoken for!

Holiday ticket a nice idea but very much weather-dependent. Think we'll stick to getting down mid-day on the Thursday to catch the place in all its glory before the mud arrives (sorry, that's not going to happen this year) then off to the Gower for a post-GM break by the sea.
