unlike the rest of the weekend, when i might just stay in bed

I say this with a keen sense of disappointment, but having now seen the full line-up, I'm not going to be getting a ticket this year. For me, its probably the weakest line-up I've seen for Green Man (I've been at the last 3 years festivals). I was keeping eyes peeled for new additions, but there isn't anything new that would persuade me to go. No exclusive headline draws, too many repeat appearances (King Creosote? Again??? So high up the bill?? He's rubbish!). It also appears that smaller acts, like Alela Diane, who should really be on the second or third stages, have been bumped up to main stage. Why is Badly Drawn Boy on the cafe stage?? This will just result in a horrible bottleneck of people trying to see him. And is anyone really, truly happy that Junior Boys and Drive-By Truckers are so high up the bill? It's a real shame after the highs of 2005 and 2007 in particular. I can hold out till next year, though!!

King Creosote? Again??? So high up the bill?? He's rubbish! Wash your keyboard out! With 90 artists on the bill I'm looking forward to seeing some favourites and making lots of new ones. And remember - the lineup may not be so hot this year, but the weather will be

money is really the main issue for not going this year but i also feel the line up is not as good as previous years, (in my humble opinion) if i wanted to go and see spiritualized or SFA i'd go to t-in the park or something similar and i worry the GM may turn into that type of festival. i hope not. only nina nastasia would have swung it for me but i've seen her 6 or 7 times now. having said all of of that, when you lot are living it up, i'll be very jealous. knockengorroch for me this year, just two hours down the road. hope ya'll have a good one, hope the weather stays kind. and keep the noise down, some of us are trying to sleep I say this with a keen sense of disappointment, but having now seen the full line-up, I'm not going to be getting a ticket this year. This might sound a bit little crazy but to me it’s not just about the music it’s also the environment. Having a couple of days break in that beautiful valley is so relaxing. And of course there’s the change of discovering some great music. I just love the whole atmosphere.

when i were a young lad i didnt care what bands played at festivals, it was mostly about the atmosphere but now that i'm an old duffer i also want to be entertained for my hard earned cash especially after driving all the way from edinburgh. not so many bands that i'm interested in at the GM this year so this year its knocky...which ironicaly is a festival that i dont care so much for the music but love the atmosphere. it's close by and this year chumbawamba are playing and its also on my birthday and i'll also get in for nowt...phew

I might be in a minority but i think the line up is excellent in fact for me the most exciting/interesting/varied line up so far[this is my fifth]--i can't understand the criticism of repeat appearances when this year has so many fewer repeat appearances than last year.
I admit when first announced i was unsure only looking forward to The National/Spiritualized/black mountain/archie bronson but now have already discovered so many favourite new bands--caribou/jacob golden/agnostic mountain gospel choir/cave singers/fuck buttons/wild beasts/owl service/nic dawson kelly--with i'm sure many discoveries to come.

[/quote] that's the nail hit squarely on the head, i think i'm going to have a good time at GM this year, i know but if the booking policy just throws the net wider, then the whole experience becomes less interesting and i don't mean wider as in more adventurous i mean wider as in any festival friendly band will do it'll mean a more indie, and less chilled out audience fewer children and more pissed up teenagers there are a hundred festivals - and it's the fact that GM was always going to be different to the homogeneous ubiquity of the others that made it special yes the atmosphere is fantastic but it's the bands that bring the majority of the crowd and it's the crowd that makes the atmosphere anyhow - enough bitching i'm going to have fun, like i say but i'll be buying my tickets later next year, if at all cheers ray

Im not sure having a couple of bands that are capable of playing larger more commercial festivals will change the Green Man Festival but i suppose we will find out this year and see if its turned into Reading with Malkmus and Plant from last year having both previously played Reading festival.

Yeah, I agree with that. Are mainstream festival goers really going look at the line-up and want to spend £100 on 2/3 bands they know and about 80 they've never heard of?
I'm not an SFA fan, but I don't see why they shouldn't play GM, gruff rhys was really popular the last two years (i thought he was good in 2006 and pretty bad last year).
It's a shame that the 3 main headliners aren't Beirut, SFA and Pentangle like originally intended though.
I think the crowd might be a bit different this year as I reckon that there are more acts this year that appeal to a younger audience.

This is looking like the thread I started (below). I have to say the late additions haven't got me excited (though Ben Ottewell should be worth catching - I always thought Gomez were criminally underrated and overlooked). I think last year's line-up probably spoilt quite a lot of us but I also get a sense that musically the festival has shifted slightly - in an indie - post-rock - electronica direction. Even if I'm a little disappointed there's still loads of great stuff to see - in addition to existing favourites like King C, James Yorkston, Iron & Wine, SFA, I'm really looking forward to seeing Truckers of Husk, Radio Luxembourg, Grand Archives, The Accidental, Emmy the Great, School of Language . . .
You know what - it's going to be f***ing brilliant - and dry!

King Creosote? Again??? So high up the bill?? He's rubbish obviously a member not to take too seriously.... I think it's agreat line up and on par with previous years... people should take their blinkers off once in a while and climb outside their own little bubble now and again.

Tell you what - I could happily park myself in front of the main stage throughout most of Sunday - great line-up. And back-to-back James Yorkston and KC on the Friday! Anyone know if there'll be another Fence Collective bash this year? I missed it last year.

I've just finished updating the "line up with links" thread, and there's a link to everyone who's playing there now, except for Orange Blossom Special, who I can't find a Myspace or website for. If anyone knows of one, please PM me and I'll add it to the list.

This is a rather low blow, palesaint! I was only registering my disappointment with how the line-up actually seemed rather less exciting than in recent years. I don't consider my disavowall of this year's line-up to be related to my residence in a personal bubble, in fact a little more adventurousness amongst the bands booked would have pricked up my ears and (rather lean) wallet somewhat. I don't care for KC (too many albums, too little quality control, generally unremarkable in both music and songwriting). Admittedly, my initial dismissal may have seemed somewhat cavalier, but I would sincerely hope that the strength of my credulity remains intact. I hope everyone who goes has a great time

Each to their own then chaps
Can I humbly suggest that if you're going to express dislike for an act, you should do it as you've just done in your last post, with some reasons, rather than just saying "he's rubbish", unless you're prepared for fans of said act to pounce on you!
Let's keep it friendly folks, Green Man is a friendly kind of a festival, isn't it?
