I'm thinking of making a flag to make it easier to find my tent. The flag bit seems straightforward enough, but how do people usually make flagpoles?
So far I'm thinking of tying some bamboo sticks together. Does anyone know a better way?

I have one these telescopic flag poles. I got it on Ebay for around £7. It's telescopic & made of fibreglass. I shall be attaching it to out gazebo (I won't reveal what's on my flag - made that mistake before). A home-made one may not stand up to the weather!

Did I mention that it was telescopic?

I'm going to buy one of those flag poles, and me and my friend are making our flag today. I doubt it'll last, though...

If there's approx. 5000 people & lets say 1 tent to every 4 people & allowing for camper vans & day visitors, they'll probably be around 1000 tents! Most of these will be 2/3 person tents, probably blue, green or similar. Walking back from the main area, in the dark, a little woozy, looking for your 3 person Millets special, can you see where I'm heading?

that's true. I never had any problems finding my tent at reading though... maybe I just wasn't drunk enough hopefully enough other people will have flags that I will be able to find my tent from theirs. or is that just being lazy?

I reckon it's down to whether you want to be able to find your tent, or find your tent easily.

If you are making a pole by tying two sticks together then try using plastic tie wraps or jubilee clips. It's a lot easier to bet the required tension

Tie wraps it shall be, then. I have, for some reason, got a lot of tie wraps.

My clever husband is taking a fishing pole! We will be putting a swirly stars and stripes flag thing on it.

I'll use a GPS and hope that I can recognise the tent, gazebo, my mate's tents and his mates tents from 3m accuracy away. not sure how my kids will manage though

Would it be really stupid to tie a helium balloon to the top of the tent, of just very unenvironmental?

I love the helium balloon idea!! Really, I even thought about it myself, and there's a shop nearby where you can get 'star wars' themed novelty helium balloons (Yoda's head!!!!! wowee!) Sadly, i just think it could be irresistible to people and would get removed and then put up at someone elses tent thus causing hideous confusion and conflict... or perhaps city life has made me a misanthropist
